Psychological profileEdit

PersonalityEdit

In contrast to his predecessor, the Fourteenth Caretaker was more comical, confident, self-centered and impulsive. Average in height and build, he relied more on intelligence, agility, and quick wit to protect himself, rather than physical strength, but was still a formidable opponent when forced to fight. He was admired by children for his eccentric personality, once likening himself to a favorite uncle.

Mercurial, clever, and always a few steps ahead of his enemies, at times the Caretaker could be a calculating schemer who would not only manipulate people for the greater good, but act like a bumbling fool in order to have others underestimate his true abilities. Although he frequently gave the impression that he never knew what he was doing, this was simply an act put on to fool those who would underestimate him.

He would be furious with those he saw as stupid, misguided or evil. When taking charge, he could be considered authoritative to the point of egocentricity, but was usually the only one capable of solving the situations he found himself in. Although generally peace-loving and kind-hearted, as were most of his incarnations, the Fourteenth Caretaker could also react with sudden violence if he had no alternative but to defend himself.

The fourteenth incarnation possessed a new appreciation for the wonders of the universe and was determined to keep the innocent safe from harm. While he was more adept at noticing the flaws of humanity than his optimistic predecessor, he still retained the selfless and caring attitude that he carried throughout his previous lives, never once hesitating to put himself in harm's way in attempt to save those around him.

The Caretaker was a big fan of literature, particular J. R. R. Tolkien, Hans Christian Andersen, J. K. Rowling, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Charles Darwin, Reverend W. Awdry and the Brothers Grimm. He also showed a fondness for music, and claimed to have played with various composers and musicians. He also liked music more contemporary, at one time visiting a studio to contribute some urban backing vocals.

Preferring to remain unnoticed in the background, the Caretaker would encourage others into acts of heroism, though he was unafraid to confront his adversaries directly. He was overconfident about his plans, even if he didn't think they would work.

The Caretaker claimed to be a man of his word, and often expressed surprise when people would doubt his honesty. When things looked bleakest, he liked to have those around him focus on hope and survival, usually incorporating reverse psychology and brutal honesty to do so.

Afraid of the Time Lords finding him, the Caretaker would look out into space from his IDRIS' Time-Space Visualiser every morning to remind himself of what he was protecting. However, the Caretaker would argue with himself about the casualties of his heroism, eventually concluding that every life he saved was a victory in and of itself, but felt guilty over the casualties that came in his travels' wake, especially those directly caused by himself. He forcibly suppressed his memories of these deaths so he could enjoy himself.

Though he showed disdain for guns, the Fourteenth Caretaker was willing to use them in a non-harmful ways, such as shooting into the air to quite a panicking crowd and to threaten his adversaries.

Habits and QuirksEdit

The Fourteenth Caretaker thought aloud when he panicked and, when thinking intensely, would wear a deer-stalker hat, which he affectionately referred to as his "thinking cap". When stressed, he tended to babble about what he knew about the current situation to help him formulate a plan.

The fourteenth incarnation possessed a harmonica, which he played to concentrate, while relaxing, when entertaining or to play a tune with a hidden message. He displayed a fondness of music in other ways besides his harmonica, such as playing the euphonium, and kazoo, as well as quoting song lyrics that fitted the situations he was in.

The fourteenth incarnation tended to have tantrums when he argued with his companions, commonly overreacting with rage when questioned about his methods, or when he was interrupted, often angrily pointing out that he wished to end his sentences. He would often instruct others to follow him by saying "come on", even saying it when he was following them. He would often ask others if they were listening to him, and often told those who annoyed him to "shut up".

The Caretaker favored chocolate and Jammie Dodgers, but disliked drinking any kind of alcoholic beverage. He also displayed a certain level of joy when it came to toying with people emotionally, often addressing them by the wrong name or undermining their intelligence, though either unintentionally or after his victim became boastful.

He was fond of hats and often tried to find one to wear, eventually taking to carrying a deer-stalker hat in his jacket. Such prominent hats included a stovepipe, a panama hat, several trilbies, a straw hat, and, on one occasion, a Balmoral bonnet.

This incarnation also got distracted easily. Usually, it applied to something only he found fascinating, even disregarding important matters. In a show of vanity, the Caretaker would often admired himself in a mirror. He also had the occasional habit of bopping someone on the head when they did something idiotic, and holding someone's head when attempting to console them.

SkillsEdit

The Fourteenth Caretaker was a skilled swordsman, being able to hold his own against multiple opponents and the finest swordsman on the Vampire Court, The Vicar and the Vampires but usually preferred to negotiate rather than fight. However, when forced into combat, the Caretaker held his own in duels by using a combination of swordplay, trickery and utilising any available object as a weapon.

The Caretaker was talented magician, often utilising it to distract racists from his skin colour, and had a knack for playing the harmonica. He was also shown to be adept with at least a basic level of hypnosis, using a watch to hypnotise people and break other hypnotists' hold on them with the snap of his fingers. He was also shown to have great acting skills on numerous occasions, as well as being a decent singer.

He had a gift for diplomacy and winning others over to his side, enabling him to trick others into doing what he wished, convince antagonists to regard him as an ally, and befriend enemies who had made attempts on his life. He could judge character keenly, almost instantly knowing whom to trust.

The Caretaker was highly deductive, able to understand a situation based on small details that others overlooked, and identify his location by studying his surroundings. He also had incredible eyesight and an eidetic memory, and could also analyse objects by taste.

The fourteenth incarnation was willing to resort to violence when he deemed it necessary, and proved to be a decent hand-to-hand combatant on several of these occasions, often grabbing common household tools and effectively using them as weapons. He was also an excellent shot with a pistol, able to hit a small target from a long distance.
